Ecological Revival and Blackbuck Conservation in Guindy National Park :

IN NEWS : The blackbuck population in Guindy National Park has increased from 61 in 2020–21 to 100 in 2023–24, as per recent census data.

• Urban Wildlife Sanctuary: Situated in central Chennai, Guindy National Park is a rare urban protected area providing shelter to species like blackbucks and spotted deer.
• Habitat Requirements: Blackbucks depend heavily on open grasslands for their survival.
• Restoration Efforts: A neglected area within the park, known as the Polo Ground, is set to be restored despite being overrun by invasive plants, as it remains a vital blackbuck habitat.
