• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the Jal Jeevan Scheme will be extended until 2028.

Financial Allocation:
• Rs. 67,000 crore has been earmarked for the project.
• In the 2024-25 budget, an initial allocation of Rs. 70,162.90 crore was made, which was later reduced to Rs. 22,694 crore.
Implementation and Partnerships:
• The scheme is being extended to ensure piped water supply to all rural dwellings.
• Separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with states and Union Territories to provide water services to citizens.
Objective of the Scheme:
• The aim of the Jal Jeevan Scheme is to provide safe and adequate drinking water to rural households through individual household tap connections.
