Tamil Nadu land Bearing tax act:

- The Tamil Nadu government has introduced a new tax through the Tamil Nadu Mineral Bearing Land Tax Act, 2024, aiming to collect revenue from lands containing minerals.
- This tax, applicable to 32 different minerals, is expected to yield around ₹2,400 crore annually for the state.
- Leaseholders of both major and minor minerals are required to pay the tax starting from April 4, 2025.
- The tax rates vary by mineral type, with the highest being ₹7,000 per tonne for Sillimanite and the lowest ₹40 per tonne for clay minerals.
