• UDAN is a regional connectivity scheme launched in 2016 to make air travel affordable and accessible.
  • UDAN 2.0 is the upgraded version focusing on last-mile connectivity and cost-effective airport infrastructure.

Objectives of UDAN 2.0:

  1. Boost Regional Aviation:
    • Expand connectivity to underserved and unserved regions.
  2. Affordable Air Travel:
    • Enable common citizens to access air travel.
  3. Revival of Infrastructure:
    • Revive existing airports, airstrips, heliports, and water aerodromes.
  4. Ease for New Airlines:
    • Simplify regulations for new operators and encourage private participation.

Budgetary Allocations:

  • Previous Budget (2023–24): ₹502 crore was allocated.
  • Expected Increase: Anticipated higher allocation for UDAN 2.0 to meet its expansion goals.
