The report titled ‘Language Matter: Global Guidance on Multilingual Education’, was released by UNESCO.

The Critical Need for Mother Tongue Education:

• The report strongly emphasizes that learning in one’s mother tongue significantly enhances learning outcomes. It highlights that many children globally lack access to education in a language they understand, creating significant barriers.

The Scale of the Global Language Barrier:

A significant portion of the global population, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, lacks access to education in their native languages. This results in a large number of learners facing educational challenges due to language barriers. Specifically that 40% of the global population lack education in a language they understand, rising to 90% in some low and middle income countries.
