Waqf (Amendment) Bill – details

  1. The Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 renames the Waqf Act of 1995 to the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development Act of 1995 and introduces significant changes.
  2. It removes the Waqf Board’s power to determine waqf properties, transferring this authority to the District Collector under state revenue laws.
  3. It restructures Waqf Boards and Tribunals, mandating non-Muslim representation and removing the requirement for Muslim law experts in tribunals.
